How Tae Kwon-Do Helps Relieve Stress

 

I’m a firm believer the mind controls the body, and the body controls the mind. When we get them working together, amazing things happen.

Being physically fit relieves stress on your body. Having a strong core will ease the work on your joints and help the body relax. Even just sitting with your back straight and not hunched over provides a better posture and less stress on your back. If your body is stressed, so is your mind. Tae Kwon-Do will get you physically fit.

Stress causes the body to tense up. Tae Kwon-Do relieves the tension by stretching. We do A LOT of stretching. Our muscles are long and lean so we can perform our techniques and patterns. This not only helps in our training, but eliminates the stress in our muscles, joints, and ligaments. Tae Kwon-Do focuses on the mind, body, and spirit all working together in harmony.

To set the rhythm and feed your body the oxygen it craves, we develop deep breathing exercises. Proper breathing relieves the body’s stress and helps you focus and concentrate on the task at hand.

Learning Tae Kwon-Do patterns is actually a form of meditation. Much like the mantra you repeat over and over, we continually repeat our patterns until they become instinctive to the body. Unconsciously your body will react. It’s a physical and mental mantra.

Everything we do involves clearing the mind. In fact, taking our shoes off to practice is symbolic of leaving your problems outside of the dojang. When you enter our house, you’re coming in clean and clear from all other distractions.

You don’t stop doing things because you grow old… you grow old because you stop doing things. We are here to help you experience the total mind and body stress-free life.
