UFC and MMA make HUGE discovery!

As you know, I always kid about MMA. I call it Mixed Up Martial Arts. As a traditionalist, I believe that although they are very tough guys and have an incredible training regimen, they lack in perfecting technique. I have always professed that they are good at many things and not GREAT at very much. I have also said if anyone who really knew how to kick was in the ring, the fight would be over quickly. Witness Silva knocking out Belfort with a front kick in Round 1.

The funny part was the interview where Silva was asked where he learned that kick…he answered “Steven Segal”. When Steven Segal was asked where he learned that awesome kick he answered “about 40 years ago!” and seemed rather irked that something so basic is now viewed as incredible.

My point? Don’t let trends or fads deter you or take you off the path laid before you. Train hard and train often. Our style of Tae Kwon-Do was developed for hand to hand combat in the field and is still used today in the special forces. The results of repetition and focused training will give you the tools to survive in a match or a real life situation. In the process you will get into incredible shape and receive many physical and mental benefits. AND IT’S FUN!
