Crossfit vs Tae Kwon-Do
Someone asked me about the differences between CrossFit and Tae Kwon-Do. I’ve never done CrossFit and only know what I’ve watched, read, or what people have told me.
No Comparison to Tae Kwon-Do
Tae Kwon-Do training works every muscle in your body in a way that is good for your life. Stretching. Flexibility. Proper breathing. Training your mind to be clear, focused, ethical, and moral. Tae Kwon-Do does all this.
You will get into shape and lose weight. We do a lot of calisthenics to increase your flexibility and strengthen your core. We build long, lean muscles to tighten you up and lose the flab. Your body will become clean and razor sharp like a weapon.
You will learn to defend yourself, which is something CrossFit isn’t designed to teach you.
We work your body with punching, kicking, and blocking drills that no other exercise regiment can do. Speed drills that generate power and keep you moving. Your heart rate climbs and you burn calories.
Your muscles get used in all sorts of different directions and for various uses. You will develop muscles you didn’t even know you had. I tell people, “The only reason you can’t lift your leg up over your head is because you haven’t developed the muscles needed to be limber enough to do it.”
CrossFit and other fitness programs typically involve a range of workouts which get the heart rate up, work specific muscle groups, and push you to your limits. This is all good to a degree. But I’m always afraid people aren’t focusing on their body as a whole, or even worse, are being trained improperly and will get hurt.
Tae Kwon-do is about living a healthy and fulfilled life. It encompasses the mind, body, and spirit. For me, there just isn’t any better workout.
